  • The Controlling Asthma in American Cities Project is a seven-year, $6 million project to improve the outcomes for children with asthma in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
  • In October 2001, the American Lung Association of Minnesota in collaboration with the Healthy Learners Board received a two-year planning grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop a strategic plan related to childhood asthma in Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
  • A coalition representing various community sectors including environmental health, childcare, schools, health care, health plans, public health, social services, and community organizations was formed to develop this strategic plan.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention then granted the American Lung Association of Minnesota five years of funding to implement the plan (September 2003 through June 2008).
  • The Project has been successful in leveraging additional resources for this plan from the federal and state agencies, health plans, pharmaceutical companies, and foundations.
  • Hear about our project on Minnesota Public Radio.

This project is supported through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, under program announcement 03030
